Unchanging resonances (after the words of Fernando Pessoa) Acrylic, ink and gold powder on black lacquered paper. With the artist's seal, signed and dated lower left. Total dimensions : 60 x 50 cm Dimensions of the work : 39 x 29 cm Issued with a certificate of authenticity by the artist "Intimate with matter, Matchavariani has long explored the ways of the essential. Crossing the path of Junichirô Tanizaki in his In Praise of Shadows, he discovered a new freedom, one that frees the eye from sharp lines and harsh light to give free access to dreams and leaves the hand the lucidity of deep darkness. The shadow is the layer of our senses. According to Tanizaki, we can only appreciate the infinite variety of colours of the moon if the night sky has a certain darkness. Matchavariani has taken this darkness out of the abyss in order to bring out special fabrics in it" (JP Lavergne for the exhibition "Ombres et Ors") Henri Matchavariani is a renowned art director who has worked between France and Italy for over fifteen years for the most important advertising agencies, which earned him a Silver Lion in Cannes in 1974 and a Golden Clio in New York in 1976. He became an illustrator and worked on numerous advertising projects, in particular for Air France, and collaborated with numerous magazines (Vogue). His work has been exhibited and shown throughout France. He has also worked closely with Helmut Newton on a project for Cacharel. As a calligrapher, he has been returning for several years to the source of his talent with a gesture of great simplicity, made up of flights and annotations inspired by the East. An exhibition entitled "Henri Matchavariani and Christian Dotremont" is planned shortly. Henri Matchavariani is also a personality of French cinema: he has realised numerous dubbings, and appears regularly in second roles, notably in films by Philippe Claudel, Roman Polanski, etc.
