Cloned dogs, penguins, cats and frogs ... radiant red, blue, yellow and many other colors ... William Sweetlove was born in 1949 in Ostend, Belgium. Since 2001 he has been a member of the artists collective "De Cracking Art Group" in Northern Italy. As a physical medium for the basis of his artworks, he uses a type of plastic and polyester, produced via a thermo-chemical reaction in crude oil. This reaction, known as "cracking" is the origin of the Cracking art group name. He spreads a vision of the world suffused with elements of irony and ecological awareness. William Sweetlove adds the belief that art should also be an antidote to overconsumption and overproduction. His paintings, sculptures and assemblages are his impressions of existing reproduced materials such as polyester, animal skins and textiles. William Sweetlove thrives on the superficial, placing razor-sharp contrast against the core. Through a number of variations on the same theme, in some of his works he creates friction between the artificial and the large, completely erasing the boundaries between toy and the work of art. This is a world where poodles, giraffes and penguins are represented in artifacts that unite Dadaism, Surrealism and the Pop Art in a common post-modernist synthesis.
