Joan Miro

Mavena

Joan Miro - MavenaJoan Miro - MavenaJoan Miro - Mavena

A very special and rare lithograph on handmade Auvergne, Richard de Bas paper. Includes pressed petals, frond tips and grasses. Each sheet is unique. Printed by Mourlot, Paris 1960. Published for the album 'Mavena' with poetry by his friend Radovan Ivsic. Signed in pencil. No 5/20 HC. The regular edition was 75 impressions.

The publishers, Éditions Surréalistes, were interested in reviving the pre-war period of surrealism. When the random effects of the flowers in the specially created paper were shown to Miro, he found that they miraculously re-stimulated the elements of subconscious form creation that had imbued his 1930s surrealist work.
