Alphons Freijmuth - without title

Alphons Freijmuth (also known as Freymuth) was educated at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam from 1963 to 1964.[2] In 1965 he had his first one-man exhibition in the Amsterdam Gallery 845. From 1974 he was a teacher at the Academy of Art and Industry (AKI) in Enschede. Freijmuth mainly works as a painter, but since the early eighties he also started making sculptures. Freijmuth spent a lot of time with Reinier Lucassen. The two painters, both admirers of René Magritte's work, influenced each other and sometimes made paintings with the same subject or variations on or of each other's work. His work is considered part of the New figuration, of which he was one of the founders. He has a wild, abstract expressionist style, with bright colours. Yet his work also contains elements of De Stijl (freijmuth frequently refers to Piet Mondriaan, as in Rendezvous with P.M. from 1991) and constructivism (for example Constructivism with beam and branch from 1986/87). His subjects are mostly figure representations, nudes and portraits. Freijmuth lives and works in Amsterdam. The work is a very large oil painting on canvas. It is signed on the back.
