William Sweetlove was born in 1949 in Ostend, Belgium. Since 2001 he has been a member of the artists' collective "The Cracking Art Group" in Northern Italy. As a physical medium for the basis of his artworks, he uses a type of plastic and polyester, produced through a thermo-chemical reaction in crude oil. This reaction, known as "cracking" is the origin of the name Cracking art group. He spreads a vision of the world suffused with elements of irony and ecological consciousness. William Sweetlove adds the belief that art should also be an antidote to overconsumption and overproduction. His paintings, sculptures and assemblages are his impressions of the existence of reproduced materials such as polyester, animal skins and textiles. William Sweetlove thrives in the superficial, contrasting razor-sharp contrast to the core. Through a number of variations on the same theme he creates in some of his works friction between the artificial and the great, completely obliterating the boundaries between the toy and the work of art. This is a world where poodles, giraffes and penguins are represented in artifacts that unite Dadaism, Surrealism and Pop Art in a common post-modernist synthesis. William Sweetlove is his own world.
